Volume one is inscribed "For Mr. Farnum, in recognition of his courtesy and interest in answering my inquiries about the early drama. Arthur Hobson Quinn. Nov. 1923" Volume two is also inscribed "To Miss Farnum...." Both volumes have moderate fading and shelfwear, the cover of volume two has a stain visible when turned to the light. The title page in volume two is considerably foxed. Farnum is most likely Dustin Farnum, a stage and silent film actor whose most famous role probably was in Owen Wister's "The Virginian"
